Friend Making Monday (a day late!)

I answered these questions yesterday, but it was so cold in my classroom I didn't want to stay any longer so I just decided that I would post today. Better late than never, right?!

I like…traveling – I can’t wait until I get to go to Berlin in October!
I don’t like… mayo and pickles – I think they are absolutely disgusting!
I love…my children. They mean the world to me.

I dream of…not feeling stressed all the time.
I wonder…why 8th graders have the brain about the size of a pea. Sometimes they just ask the stupidest questions!
I know…that I am finally done with my math endorsement!
I went…to Buca di Beppo for dinner last night.

I think…I have too much on my plate and I just need to step back a little and take a chill pill.
I plan…to continue to lose weight and become a happier, healthier me.
I regret…not taking care of my health earlier in my life.
I do…way too much for others.
I drink…water most of the time and if not water then I drink pink lemonade.
I wish…I was better at being patient.
I am…freezing cold right now. My classroom is at about 60 degrees and I have a sweater on while outside it is pushing 85 or 90 degrees.
I am not…very good at tracking the food I eat. I know I see better progress when I do, but I hate seeing myself eating poorly so then I just don’t track at all. Stupid – I know!
I need…to smile. It’s been a long day.
I hope…that I can get a decent night sleep tonight.
I want…a million dollars!
I sometimes…am not sure what I’m doing with my life.
I always…want – there is always something that I want.
I can…run/walk a half marathon.

I cannot…wait – like I said earlier, I have no patience.
I avoid…feeling stupid.
I will…try my best to be happy and healthy this week and every week. I went on a little walk last night to the top of the Dixie rock and enjoyed some Menchies above our beautiful city.

WOW! Emergency surgery is no fun!

The title says it all! It has been an absolutely crazy week!

Last Tuesday DC sent me a text in the morning telling me how he didn't feel very well. I was kind of sympathetic but figured he would just get over whatever was bothering him. By the evening he wasn't doing very well at all and missed out on going to the Dave Ramsey class we are doing and he stayed home in bed.

I slept out in the living room so he could get a good night sleep and the plan was for him to go to the doctor the next morning while I stayed home and watched the kids.

Once he got up, though, he told me he couldn't drive himself and that I would have to take him. He had the chills, was burning up and dry heaving all night. No fun!

We got him to the doctor and after a brief examination the first doctor he saw said he thought DC had an appendicitis. GREAT! I took off and went by my work to take care of things for the rest of the day while he was examined by another doctor that agreed and sent DC to the ER.

We had the kids with us so that was kind of difficult and I eventually found a wonderful neighbor to watch them so that I could go back to the ER and be with DC. When I got there he was all hooked up in a bed and had already gone through a bag of saline.

The main thing they were doing at the ER was a CT Scan to see if DC actually did have an appendicitis. Before they could do the scan, though, he had to drink this berry flavored stuff called contrast. I don't know if it was because he was so dehydrated or what, but he said it didn't taste too bad.

And then they came to wheel him off for the CT Scan.

I was kind of bored during the whole thing while I was waiting alone in the ER so of course I took a selfie :)

After the CT Scan the doctor came back in pretty quickly and said that DC did in fact have an appendicitis. He was moved to the surgical floor of the hospital and the waiting game began. He was one of a few people who were having an appendicitis that day so even though he was moved to a hospital room around 4ish in the afternoon, he didn't actually go into surgery for another four hours.

This was the view looking out of his window.

And then here he is in his hospital bed just waiting.

He did get a couple of winks of sleep prior to the surgery. I know he didn't feel well at all and was just super tired.

The surgical team came in about 8 p.m. and said it was time for the surgery. He had laproscopic surgery to remove his appendix. He ended up with just three small incisions on his stomach.

While DC was back in surgery I ran to my school to do lesson plans for the next couple of days and then I came back to the surgery waiting room. By this time our kids were with a different friend who was watching them. I felt bad for how late it was getting, but I really appreciated her taking care of them so I could be with DC.

They finally brought DC back to his room about 10:30 p.m. and I stayed with him for a few minutes while they got him all adjusted and I knew that he was OK. He was pretty warm because they had a heavy blanket on him. He also had these things on his legs to make sure that there wasn't any blood clotting.

I finally went to get the kids and before we were even home they were both passed out. When I first told LD about the surgery he was pretty freaked out and crying and just worried about if daddy would be OK or not. He was glad that I was able to show him a couple of photos to let him know that his dad was fine. I don't think EM had any clue as to what was going on.

I got a text the next morning about 9 a.m. from DC saying that the doctor had been by and he was cleared to be discharged. I found another neighbor to watch the kids and I was able to go to the hospital to pick him up. I think he looks pretty darn good for just having had surgery!

You are such a trooper DC. I'm glad that you are OK and are on the mend :)

Friend Making Monday -- Twenty Questions

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!
1. Share something that you enjoy doing when you’re alone.  Reading

2. What do you plan to eat next? Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal

3. When did you first travel on a plane?  Where did you go? I’m pretty sure my first plane ride was from Salt Lake City to San Diego. I think I was in 6th grade.

4. Do you currently have a crush on someone?  If so, share a few of the reasons why.  I always have a crush on my husband! He is a great dad and a wonderful spouse.

5. List one thing that disgusts you that probably wouldn’t bother someone else.  Mayo … pickles … feet … should I keep going?

6. If you could buy a new car tomorrow (and money was no object) what would you buy? I have really wanted a Rav4 for a long time and we found one before we bought our Mazda, but it wasn’t under warranty and it was only a four-seater. I would need one that has a third row.

7. Who was the first person who broke your heart? Gosh … I don’t remember!

8. If you could spend the night with a celebrity tonight, who would it be? Are we talking like a male or just a friend to hang out with? Male wise I would love to spend some time with Adam Levine! He is super hot and hilarious! Friend wise I would love to spend some time with Lauren Graham. I would want her to take me shopping and just gab all night.

9. Are you a morning person or a night person? I’m definitely a morning person. I can wake up pretty easily. I can stay up late, but there is a threshold I have to get past where I’m somewhat intolerable for a little bit and then I’m okay.

10. What’s your favorite board game? Monopoly.

11. Can you play an instrument? If so, what do you play? I played the flute all through junior high and high school. I also picked up the clarinet a little.

12. What is the last thing you ate?  I had a couple of bites of cantaloupe this morning. I absolutely LOVE cantaloupe, but I think I either waited too long to cut it or the Costco cantaloupe is not as good as the Wal-Mart fruit.

13. Do you wear a watch?  No, but I really want a Garmin running watch. I’m trying to save up for it.

 14. Do you go to church? Sometimes. I went on Easter. We go through stretches where we go to
church pretty much weekly and then other times where we don’t go as often. It’s hard with the kids, especially when there is no cry room.

15. Do you ever wish on stars? Yup!

16.  Have you ever been on a motorcycle? I don’t think so.

17. What is the last thing you purchased? We went to Yogurtland after dinner last night.

18. How big is your bed? Queen

19. What size shoe do you wear? Usually a 9, but I’m finding in athletic shoes I can wear a 10. I
remember when I used to wear an 8 before I had children!

20. What are you looking forward to most in the coming week? Surviving! It’s the push toward the end of the school year and it’s a super busy crazy time!

Friend Making Monday -- TV, Movies and Me

Here are my responses for Friend Making Monday. Enjoy :)

1. If you could be a recurring star on a show that is currently on TV, which show would you choose?  Gosh! That’s kind of a tough one because most of what I watch is either reality TV or just total guilty pleasure stuff. I guess maybe I would want to be on The Office and be BFFs with Pam. I’m really sad the show is ending after this season because it’s getting really good. It’s interesting to watch the relationship between Jim and Pam change and how it’s not just some fairytale life.

2. Name the movie that you are most embarrassed to admit that you love.  Most of the movies I watch aren’t necessarily award winners so it’s hard to pick just one. I’ll go with Crossroads, though. I haven’t seen it in forever, but it was a great Britney Spears movie!

3. Name one show that you’ve never seen and would love to watch. I guess I would be interested to see Downton Abby. I almost feel like it’s trendy to watch it, but it does sound kind of interesting.

4. Do you ever go to movies alone?  Yup! In fact, I just went to see Safe Haven by myself yesterday. I don’t really see the big deal in being alone. You’re watching a movie where you shouldn’t be holding a conversation anyway.

5. If you could only watch one TV show for the next year, which show would you choose and why?  Does it have to be something currently on TV? If not, I would definitely say Gilmore Girls. That is probably my favorite show of all time! I love how witty and quick everyone is.

 6. If you could star in one reality show, which one would it be and why?  I’ve always wanted to be on Big Brother. I just think it would be fun to spend a summer living in a house with other people – I would just hope I would be part of the alliance that was winning and just real good people.

7. If someone rented a billboard for you, what would it say?  The first thing that came to my mind was “You can do it!” in that really goofy voice. It’s true though, I can do anything I put my mind do and I will. I decided I was going to track my food this week and I can already see a difference on the scale. I CAN DO IT!

8. Who is the most famous person with whom you have been in the same room?  I would probably say Will Smith. He filmed Independence Day out in the Salt Flats and my family went out to Wendover for a little getaway. I remember we were checking into the casino and my dad turned around and was like “Will Smith!” and he put out he hand to shake my dad’s. He had his little boy on his shoulders at the time (that’s how long ago this was). We kept seeing him throughout our stay at the hotel and I kept singing the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air song. My mom said she would pay me money to go up to him and sing it. Of course I was too nervous. I did end up going to ask him for his autograph. Super nice man!

9. If you were chosen to be a contestant on a TV game show, which show would you want to be on?  I’ve always wanted to be on Jeopardy, but I really don’t think I’m smart enough. I think I would want to be on something like Fear Factor where I could prove to myself that I could do things that I didn’t think I could do. It’s all about self-empowerment.

10. If there was a movie being made about you, which actor would you choose to play you? I would definitely say Lauren Graham. I absolutely LOVE her and I think she does an amazing job acting. Plus, we kinda have a similar look ... right? No, she's 100 times prettier (or at least I wish I had her body at her age!).

                                               Lauren Graham                                                                                                                                             Me and LD

Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions!

What I Wore Wednesday

I love that it is finally getting warmer and we can wear our capris and shorts and not freeze to death. It's still a tad cold in the morning and at night, but around 4 p.m. it is just perfect!

This isn't he most exciting outfit, but I pulled some capris out of my drawer that are pretty big on me (darn, I guess I need to go shopping!), a shirt I bought off the Facebook yard sale site and my Toms.

I guess what is different about this photo is that I have my glasses on. I don't LOVE wearing glasses, but I went to put my contacts in and dropped one of them on the floor. I was pretty mad about it because I had just barely opened a new pair and had only worn them for a couple of days. It was like throwing money away because I couldn't not find the contact I lost.

Kind of as punishment to myself I said I had to wear my glasses for a bit. I'm back to wearing contacts now, but I really should wear my glasses more -- I guess they aren't that bad!

Friend Making Monday -- Childhood Flashback

1. Did you have a set bedtime as a child?  If so, what was it? I'm sure I did, but I don't remember what it was. I do remember laying in my mom and dad's bedroom and telling them I was watching Murphy Brown when I was really watching Beverly Hills 90210! With my own kids I'm trying really hard to enforce a 9 p.m. bedtime (10:00 on Friday and Saturdays) and although LD does have a TV in his bedroom it does not have cable hooked up to it anymore.
2. Were you taught to be a member of the “Clean Plate Club?” Did it have affect your eating habits as an adult?  I don't think so. My parents were pretty catering to what we wanted to (or didn't want to) eat growing up. With my own kids I don't make them clean their plates, but I do encourage them to try some of everything.
3. Share one thing that you were not allowed to do as a child. I'm not sure on this one. I guess I could say that I wasn't allowed to watch 90210, but I did anyway. Eventually we kind of watched it as a family.
4. What is the cheapest gas price you can remember?  I specifically remember when I started driving gas  only cost $.90. Holy cow! I can't believe how much more we pay for gas today versus 15 years ago. It doesn't make any sense, but there is also nothing I can do about it. GRRRRR
5. What was your favorite thing on the playground?  I loved playing 4-square and teatherball. Anything where I could try to be the winner was awesome.
6. Share one thing that your parents always made you do that you didn’t like doing.  These are hard questions. Either I have an awful memory or I loved everything I did and my parents never forced me to do anything I wasn't interested in.
7. Do you remember your first kiss?  If so, share the details!  I don't remember specifics ... I remember I was much younger than I would want my kids to be.
8. Did you prefer to play inside or outside?  I liked being inside, but I really liked being outside. On Sundays I would walk around the neighborhood reading.
9. What was your favorite TV show growing up?  I loved shows like Saved by the Bell, Boy Meets World and as I got older I loved Dawson's Creek and of course 90210 and Melrose Place.
10. Share one awesome childhood memory.  I remember just growing up and being super happy. My parents gave me every opportunity possible and we took fun family vacations. I would say overall I had a great childhood.
Bonus: Share a picture of yourself as a child.  This is a picture of me and my mom and a Girl Scout camp in northern Idaho. I really enjoyed doing these kind of things with my mom!
